Lymphedema Therapy
The lymphatic system is responsible for distributing and removing excess fluid in the body. When that distribution process is interrupted or damaged, protein and water begin to accumulate in the spaces around the cells, causing painful swelling, tissue damage, limited movement and repeated infections.
Persons at risk of developing lymphedema have:
- Had a lymph node removed
- A damaged lymphatic system
- Had radiation therapy
- Gained weight during or after cancer treatment
- Had an infection or blood clot in a limb affected by cancer
- A family history of lymphedema
We recently added a lymphedema therapy clinic to the vast array of services offered in the physical rehabilitation department. The clinic is staffed by physical and occupational therapists who are certified in lymphedema. The clinic is open Monday - Friday by appointment, with a doctor’s referral.
We welcome all persons affected by lymphedema. Our certified staff works to provide proactive treatments for those facing cancer interventions as well as holistic care for any patients that have struggled with the limitations of chronic swelling and lymphedema.
