Welcome

We understand the anxiety and concern many parents experience when they learn their child needs to be hospitalized. Here at DRMC, parents can rest assured that their child will receive the highest level of care, delivered in a compassionate professional manner. Our staff consists of experienced Pediatric Nurses who are specially trained in PALS (pediatric advanced life support). In addition a number of board certified pediatricians and family practitioners are on staff at Davis Regional. We value the trust you have placed in our staff and facility and will do our best to ensure your child’s hospitalization is as comfortable and stress free as possible.

Our Unit

Our hospital has a wing dedicated to the practice of pediatric care. With spacious rooms, TVs,  and special children’s movies, we are committed to improving children’s health, while making them feel safe, secure, and comfortable.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours end at 8:30 pm, however, one parent or caregiver is encouraged to stay with a young child at all times. If a sibling is staying with the parent and patient over night, a release of responsibility form must be signed. Unless previously arranged with the pediatric staff, only one parent is allowed to stay with the child at night. Visiting children are not allowed in areas outside the patient room.  As a courtesy, a cot or recliner is available for the parent. Because we are located adjacent to the Newborn Nursery, there are special guidelines that we ask our families, patients and guests to follow.

Dietary Guidelines

Our hospital dietitian will work closely with the special nutritional needs of pediatric patients to ensure their diets contain the nutrients essential to their grown and recovery process. To aid in this endeavor, we request that no food be brought into the hospital for the child, unless the pediatric nurse has approved it. For children under 16 years, a complimentary meal tray is provided for the parent. In addition, a canteen area is located on the first floor for snacks.

Television/VCR/DVD

TVs are provided as a courtesy for our patients. We request that the TV be turned off by 10 pm to allow ample sleep and rest time for the patient. A VCR/DVD is linked to all patient TVs and a wide selection of videos are available. A brochure is given upon admission that lists all the movies available. To access the movie channel, please turn to Channel 16.

Playroom Guidelines

The Pediatric playroom is offered for diversional therapy for patients, with the majority of the toys being for infants or toddlers. Parents must be with the child at all times while he/she is in the Playroom.  All toys in this area are cleaned routinely.  If a toy is removed from the Playroom, it must be returned to the Nursing Station and cleaned before being returned to this area. All toys brought from home must be checked for labeling and safety purposes. Toys from home are the parent’s responsibility.  A wagon is available for the patient’s use, however, for safety purposes, the patient must wear the seat belt at all times when in the wagon.  In addition to the playroom activities and toys, we have a book cart. Hand-held toys are also available.

Telephone Guidelines

Telephones are located in all patient rooms, and local calls are free. To access a local call dial 9, wait for a dial tone, and then proceed with the number you are calling. All rooms can receive calls from outside by dialing (704) 838-7+room number. Long distance calls must be made collect, by credit card or billed to a third number. Long distance calls cannot be charged to a patient room.

Safety Guidelines

• All electrical equipment brought into the hospital must be checked by our hospital Engineering Department for safety (ex. hair dryer, radio, etc.). All electrical outlets on this unit are safety outlets. High chairs are available, with seat belts required when in use. Children should not be left unattended in the portable swing when either asleep or awake.

• Due to choking hazards, only mylar balloons are allowed in this area.  Please note that Latex balloons are not allowed in the Pediatric area.

• If a parent must leave their child unattended for a period of time, please notify the pediatric staff and provide us with a telephone number where we can reach you.

• Slippers or clean socks must be worn by the patient/caregiver when walking in the room or halls.  Parents must accompany the child when he/she is in the hall area.

• Side rails must be in place on the bed at all times for infants and toddlers. Top rails are required for children over 6 years, with side rails required only while sleeping.

• The propping of a bottle while feeding an infant is not allowed. Infants must be held when feeding, and burped after every 1-2 ounces of liquid. After feeding, the infant should be positioned on its right side, with the head of the bed elevated at all times when sleeping.

Parent Smoking Guidelines

Davis Regional Medical Center is a smoke-free facility and campus. If a parent must leave the hospital property to smoke, our staff must be informed so arrangements can be made for the child to be monitored during that time. Our hospital front doors are locked at 8:30 pm for security reasons.  Should parents need to leave the property for a smoke break after 8:30 pm, they must enter through the Emergency entrance, after first checking with the Security Guard.
