The Imaging Department at Davis Regional Medical Center offers an array of diagnostic services performed by well-trained and credentialed technologists. Our objective is to provide our patients with the optimum diagnostic and therapeutic testing and treatment. Our highly-trained staff offers prompt, efficient, and high-quality services to our patients at all times.
One-Call Scheduling
Outpatient Imaging Procedures are available through the scheduling office. The office is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call (704) 838-7390. After an appointment is made, physician orders for exams may be faxed to One-Call scheduling at (704) 838-7413. After hours please contact the Imaging Department at (704) 838-7660. We require a written physician’s order for all procedures.
Diagnostic Radiology
General Diagnostic Radiology services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Services such as fluoroscopy, IVP’s, and special procedures are available on a scheduled basis, Monday through Friday. Special procedure exams include:
• Arthrograms
• Biopsies
• ERCPs
• Facet joint injections
• Fistulograms
• Hysterosalpingograms
• Lumbar or caudal epidural injections
• Lumbar punctures
• Myelograms
• Selective nerve root injections
Mammography
The Mammography Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Our mammography services also meet all required standards by the MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) and the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources. Mammograms are performed by technologists who are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Mammography. Mammography services are available on a scheduled basis, with afterhours and weekend appointmens available.
Services provided by the Mammography Department include screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, spot/magnification imaging, breast needle localizations, and specimen imaging.
Digital radiology was added in July 2009 to the hospital's comprehensive imaging services.
Digital mammography offers a number of practical advantages and patient conveniences. The instantaneous image transfer and additional information provided to the radiologist is invaluable. This can mean a faster mammogram for the patient and fewer follow-up procedures.
Digital mammography yields a better evaluation of breast tissue in women with dense breasts, thus enabling better detection of masses. Radiologists can view and manipulate the images on high-resolution computer monitors that enhance the ability to detect cancer at its earliest stage.
In conjunction with the digital mammography at Davis Regional, the mammogram will be
evaluated by Computer-Aided Detection (CAD). The CAD system provides a ‘second read’ of the mammogram by a computer. This assists the radiologist in making an earlier diagnosis.
The Mammography Center at Davis Regional periodically undergoes extensive Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) inspections by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Inspections ensure that the hospital is compliant with the requirements for the regulation of radiation protection as well as all required quality processes.
The comprehensive 6-hour inspection also checks to make sure the hospital’s digital mammography equipment and film processors are operating efficiently. An intensive records review is also conducted to ensure all safety inspections, quality controls, and infection standards are completed periodically as required. In addition to equipment and safety reviews, a portion of the inspections are dedicated to staff competencies. Initial qualifications, continuing education and years of experience are verified and demonstrate the hospital’s commitment to exceptional associates, providing quality care.

CT Scanning
The regular hours of operation for scheduling of CT Scanning services are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
Emergency scanning services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. CT Scanning services include, head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, sinus, extremities, biopsies, aspirations, joint injections, necks, spines, IAC’s, and facial bones. For your convenience, patients or procedures requiring IV conscious sedation will be arranged by the Imaging Department.
MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a non-invasive technique that uses harmless magnetic fields to view body tissue. Exams performed include, but are not limited to chest, pelvis, extremities, joint imaging, TMJ’s, head, spine, MRA’s, specialized vascular techniques, and much more. For your convenience, patients or procedures requiring IV conscious sedation will be arranged by the Imaging Department.
Our MRI hours of service are Mon-Fri 7 am- 6:00 pm and Saturday from 7:30 am-3 pm. Call Davis Regional One-Call Scheduling at 704-838-7390 to schedule an appointment.
Diagnostic and Vascular Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a painless and harmless diagnostic technique that uses sound waves to see internal anatomy. The Ultrasound Department consists of Echocardiography, Vascular Imaging, and Diagnostic Ultrasound. Ultrasound services include, but are not limited to, chest, abdomen, pelvis, small parts, OB/GYN, paracentesis, thoracentesis, biopsies, vascular, arterial/segmental pressure exams and of course cardiovascular.
Ultrasound services are available on a scheduled basis, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The technologists are on call after hours and weekends for emergency scanning.
Cardiac Cath
Cardiac Catheterization uses video x-ray imaging to view the circulatory system. It is minimally invasive, and much safer for diagnosis than surgery. Davis Regional Medical Center’s equipment is entirely digital, the first of its kind in Iredell County, which offers physician and patients a more expedient examination and diagnosis.
Cardiac Cath is scheduled through a local cardiologist. Diagnostic Cardiac Cath services are available Monday through Friday- from 7:30am until 4:00 PM.
Interventional Cardiology%20comp.jpg)
In January 2011, the hospital expanded services in the Cardiac Cath Lab to include Interventional Cardiology. Leading the Interventional Cardiology program at Davis Regional are Drs. Charles DeBerardinis and Jay Shah.
Interventional Cardiology begins in the Cardiac Cath Lab with a highly-skilled cardiac team and it involves diagnostic procedures as well as interventional procedures.
Diagnostic procedures involve images of the heart, while interventional procedures deal with opening blockages in the arteries to allow better blood flow.
Angioplasty is a type of interventional procedure that offers certain patients heart disease treatment without surgery. Stent placement, during interventional procedures, is another option that can be done during angioplasty to help keep the coronary artery open.
The Interventional Cardiology program allows us to remove blockages without opening the chest, which may mean a faster recovery and less trauma or anxiety for patients.
Angiography/Special Procedure Services
Angiography and Special Procedure services are available on a scheduled basis, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Specials and Angiography services include, but are not limited to, nerve blocks, facet injections, nephrostomies, abdomen aorta and runoff/s and evaluations of the entire vascular system.
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine services include, but are not limited to, bone scans, thallium stress tests, adenosine stress tests, GI bleed scans, thyroid scans, and lung scans. Nuclear Medicine services are available on a scheduled basis, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. (or earlier if necessary) until 6:00 p.m. The technologists are on call after hours and weekends for emergency scanning.
Radiologists
Radiology procedures are interpreted by Radiologists who are board certified and on staff at Davis Regional Medical Center.
