These individuals exemplify a passion for their calling and are among the best of the best. They truly make a difference in the lives of our patients, physicians, and employees.

Employee of the Year: Gene Shaver, Imaging Services
With over fifteen years of dedicated service to Davis Regional Medical Center, Gene Shaver has a well-deserved reputation of excellence and a deep commitment to our hospital. He is consistently recognized by physicians and patients for providing exceptional service, either in his role as PACS (Picture Archiving & Communications Systems) Administrator or Nuclear Medicine Technician. With his easy-going nature and professional demeanor, he is a valuable member of the Davis Regional team.

Nurse of the Year: Juanita Mallard, RN, TCU
Joining Davis Regional in June 2004, Juanita quickly earned the well-deserved reputation of being an exceptional nurse. She is known for her strong clinical skills as well as her pleasant personality and willingness to assist in many areas throughout the hospital. Patients and family members, as well as staff, describe her as a ‘joy’. Her warm, compassionate care and friendly demeanor make her an invaluable employee.

Director of the Quarter: Alan Dodson, Delta Center Behavioral Services
Joining Davis Regional in 2009, Alan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from UNC, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UNC-C, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian State University. Because of his leadership skills and his extensive involvement with the local mental health community, our hospital was recently awarded a major grant to expand our services to accommodate additional psychiatric patients. Alan’s deep commitment to our hospital and the communities we serve makes him an essential member of our team.
Volunteer of the Year: Ruth Jones, Sunshine Volunteers 
Ruth joined Davis Regional in 1974 as a staff nurse. In the early 1980’s, she was promoted to Head Nurse of Orthopedics and remained in that role until her retirement in 1992. She was a beloved nurse leader and exceptional mentor for our nursing staff. In 1993, she joined the Sunshine Volunteers and now serves on the scholarship committee, secretary of the Sunshine Volunteers, chairman of the Cheer Committee, Information Desk volunteer, and Communications Committee. Ruth’s ready smile and willingness to assist has endeared her to us all, and we are indebted for her many years of faithful service.
