Should I Volunteer?
Do you like people? Do you find a sense of satisfaction in helping others? Are you between the ages of 15 and 100? At Davis Regional, our volunteers come from many backgrounds, but each one shares a love of people and a commitment to serve others. If these statements describe you, the Sunshine Volunteer Association may be just what you’re looking for in your life.
Volunteer Purpose
The purpose of the Sunshine Volunteer Association is to render service to
Davis Regional Medical Center and its patients, to bring cheer and comfort to those who are ill, and to assist Davis Regional in promoting the health and welfare of the community, in accordance with the objectives established by the hospital Administration and Board of Trustees.
What Do I Do Next?
As a potential volunteer, you must submit an application and undergo a complete background and reference check. Next, you will meet with a member of the Volunteer Services staff to discuss current opportunities.
Upon selection to the program, you will attend a hospital orientation program and receive training for your chosen area of interest. Current areas of service include, but are not limited to:
- Front Desk
- Gift Shop
- Food and Nutritio
- Outpatient Waiting Area
- Materials Management
- Facilities Management
- Clerical Support
- Craft Committee
Several of our Sunshine Volunteers knit or crochet caps for newborns and lap robes for wheelchair-bound patients. Others make walker pouches for rehab patients, burp pads for infants and bibs for toddlers. Whatever special gifts or talents you have to share are greatly appreciated at Davis Regional.
Volunteer Benefits
Our Sunshine Volunteers receive:
- free annual flu shot
- free meal for each 4-hour shift
- reduced Fitness Program fee
- free parking, and much more
One of the most important benefits a volunteer receives is a deep sense of satisfaction in helping others, as evidenced by the comments below. “I look forward to the days I come to the hospital because I enjoy meeting people who might just need a helping hand or a word of encouragement.” Aileen Robbins, volunteer since 1986
“One of the things I missed most after retiring was people, and volunteering at Davis Regional Medical Center fills that gap for me.” Eb Kimbrell, volunteer since 1995
